When the original Chelmsford club closed down in 1938 a new club was formed with the aim of joining the Football League. Ex-international player Billy Walker was appointed as manager, and well-known players with League experience signed. In a sensational start to the new club’s career, they reached the 4th round of the FA Cup, losing to Birmingham. Jack Rollin’s book looks at the players from the period and includes full line-ups and scorers for the club’s games in the Southern League for 1939-40 and other matches

The author is the former editor of Soccer Star and compiled the Rothmans Football Yearbook for many seasons.  He is an Essex resident and keeps a close eye on the club’s performances.
