The former South Shields club upped and moved down the road to Gateshead in 1930. At first results were good, with the club finishing in second place in the Third Division (North) in 1931-32. They repeated this feat in 1949-50 and were undoubtedly unfortunate in being voted out of the Football League in 1960. Garth Dykes has looked into the career of all the first-team players at Gateshead. Many of the men left little mark on the game’s history, but some had interesting careers at the club and elsewhere. The book provides their personal details and an account of their time at the club.
Although
this Gateshead club no longer exists, the town’s current Gateshead FC has
risen to the National League, the top tier of English non-League football.
