Although Nelson’s time in the Football League lasted for just ten seasons, one of those seasons saw them win the Championship of the Third Division (North).  Their single season in Division Two coincided with one of Manchester United’s visits to that division, so Nelson’s 1-0 win at Old Trafford in March 1924 can be counted as one of the club’s greatest victories.

Author Garth Dykes has looked into the playing careers of the nearly 200 men who played for Nelson in the Football League and has written a detailed account of their careers.  Full line-ups and scorers grids are included.  The book is well illustrated with player photographs and team groups.
