Database Files (For personal use)

SoccerData databases are in use by many private individuals and by corporate bodies such as Sky Sports and the Football Association.  They were first sold under licence in 1992, and are regarded as the most accurate on the market. However, after 22 years, Tony has decided to withdraw the databases from the market at the end of 2014.  No further updates will be provided, though you can of course visit the English National Football Archive at www.enfa.co.uk

They databases are supplied as “raw” data files for you to analyse and process however you wish.  You will need a database program such as Access, or a spreadsheet such as Excel, or you should be familiar with computer languages such as Visual Basic.

The prices quoted are for personal use on a single computer and are inclusive of media, postage and packing.  Some people I have dealt with ignored the licence terms and supplied the data to commercial organisations, who then profited from the use of the data.  I don’t think that is fair!  I have been obliged to take legal action in the past and will not hesitate to do so again.  If you intend to use the data for commercial purposes, on more than one computer, build it into a program of your own that you plan to sell, or use the it on the internet, you need a commercial licence.  Ask me for details.

The ‘raw’ databases are supplied in both dBASE or ASCII comma delimited format.  dBASE format can be used by spreadsheets such as Excel and databases such as Access.  ASCII format is used if you plan to use a word processor or write your own programs.  Data is supplied on CD-ROM or can be e-mailed to you.

Paypal "buy it now" buttons are provided for the most popular choices, but if there is something you need that does not have a button please email me at soccer@innotts.co.uk

The English Football League and Premier League 1888/89 to 2013/14

The contents of the records in the database are the season in which the game was played, the division of the League, home and away clubs, final score and the date.  12 character club names are used.  Present day club names are used throughout (for example, Newton Heath’s results are listed under Manchester United).

The database includes only those games that contributed to final League tables.  Therefore excluded are abandoned games, those of season 1939/40, test matches, play-offs, the expunged records of Accrington Stanley, Wigan Borough and Aldershot, and the Scunthorpe v. Exeter game of 1973/74, which was never played.  The complete results require 6Mb of hard disc space.

 The complete results                                           £60

The F.A. Cup Rounds Proper 1871/72 to 2013/14

Additional fields (to the League data file format) are used in this database to indicate details such as “extra time”, “won on penalties”, “neutral ground” etc.  Club names are “those in use at the time”, so (for example) Manchester United also appear as Newton Heath.  Dates of qualifying round games are not included.  Prices are as follows:

F.A. Cup (round 1 onwards, complete; over 15,000 records):         £40

The Football League Cup 1960/61 to 2013/14

The fields in this database are similar to those used for the F.A. Cup.  Additional fields show the League division each team was in, and the aggregate scores in the second leg of a two-legged tie.  The data includes the results of the competition under all its sponsors names (Milk Cup, Littlewoods Challenge Cup, Rumbelows League Cup, Coca Cola Cup, Worthington Cup, Carling Cup).  The price of the Football League Cup data is £20.

The F.A. Trophy and the F.A. Vase to 2013/14

The complete results of these competitions for non-league clubs are priced at £30 each or £50 for both.  The record format is the same as that used for the F.A. Cup, except that the qualifying round group number is not used.  Dates of games are not included.

Single user licence terms

Soccer Data databases are the result of man-years of development by the author.  You are entitled to use the Soccer Data databases for private purposes on a single computer.  An additional licence to use the databases commercially, on more than one computer, on the Internet, or to distribute them to third parties, is available subject to the payment of a negotiated fee.  You are of course permitted to duplicate the data on your own machine for purposes of back-up and security.  It is recommended that you do this regularly, and keep the master discs safe in case you corrupt the data by accident.
